I know Gardiner has a bad reputation, but I'd like him in our D if he got signed to nothing too big salary wise, but most importantly, not a 4+ year deal. However, doesn't seem to be Rutherford's kind of player. Especially if Tanev is going to get a 6 year deal with us. Geez. |

We are all taking about a 2 or 3 year window....so 5 years for Tanev doesn't bother me much if it gets the price down . |

That's a fair point, but my fear is if the money isn't down. Now we're stuck with another overpaid middle of the lineup kind of guy who's deal won't expire for a long while, and we already have too many of those. |

This is what I was thinking. Low cost for 5 would be okay. |

He only had a bad rep with Leafs fans that don’t know anything. The people who female dog about Gardiner are the same types of fans who female dog about Letang. |

That's obviously a realistic possiblity knowing JRs history. |

There was no need for Tanev. That’s the problem. |

In his prime, Letang was hands-down way better than Gardiner. |

$3.5M... seriously, Rutherford? Our GM has barely any wiggle room and he still finds a way to spend stupid money. |

Won’t have an opinion on the Tanev deal until I see the AAV. At this juncture of the late Crosby/Malkin era, keeping the cap hit down with superfluous years is actually a smart move. |

Gardiner is a great defencemen who would put the Pens back into powerhouse mode again. Sad to see him leave TO. |

See that's what I thought. My only real fear with term and money is that he's 28 and I didn't want to pay him 6+ when he's past like 34 but I've come to my senses and realized that Sid and Geno would be like 37 at that point. I'm fine with term if it brings in good players for the right now.
Holy hell though. 3.5 for Tanev? What are we doing? |

So we could have just signed Donskoi...wow...
Rust/Johnson trade for a D upgrade must be imminent, right? ....right?? |
